Blackjack Terms

Blackjack Rules

The Basics..........

Blackjack is easy to play. The object of the game is to try and beat the dealer by getting closer to 21. If a player is successful in getting closer to 21 than teh dealer, then they earn as much as they have bet (double your money). If their cards are over 21, then they lose their bet.

If a player has the same as the dealer (from 17 & up)no one wins and the player's bet is given back. If a player has blackjack, that is the first two cards dealt equal 21 ( a 10 valued card and an Ace) they beat 21.

Before play commences, the dealer will shuffle then cut the cards. (This is simulated online as a random number generator is used to pick random cards to be dealt) Players will place their desired bets before the dealer shuffles the cards. Be aware here what the minimum bet of your online casino is , as it will vary depending on room and online casino.

Once all the bets are down, two cards - one at a time - are dealt from left to right. The dealer will also be dealt 2 cards - one face up, one face down. Once the original 2 cards are dealt, players will decide whether the dealers hits them (deals another card) or whether they stand without being dealt anymore cards.

The object of the game is to get closer to 21 than the dealer, so the dealer must take a card if their hand is less than 16. If it is more than 17, then they must stand.

Blackjack Strategy

Now that you know and understand the rules, its time to apply them to a pratical game and test your strategies. Blackjack is best approached as a game to played in a "session", especially if you are serious. Sit down, play a few hands to warm up, then begin to implement your strategy. A strategy is important to Blackjack as it defines an exact set of bets based on the probability of the outcome over a set amount of games. There are many "strategies" that work, so you should look at them as game plans and follow then through from the beginning to end.

The nature of a "strategy" means it really should be played right to the end, even if you aren't having success in the beginning - in fact ESPECIALLY if you are having success in the beginning. The laws of probability and the strategy you are applying should guarentee a minimum number of wins based on the number of cards in a deck and the numbers of games you play - if you bail out of a strategy before you have seen it through, you may have just played the bad bit and left behind the good bit! Getting the right Blackjack strategy might take some time, but its worth the effort - especially when you can practice all you like with free money before you take the plunge.
